  • Judi Dench was the original Sally Bowles in London

For those that don't know, Judi Dench was the original Sally Bowles in the London (the West End) production of "Cabaret"... so she's just returning here on this album in another role from the play. Although she doesn't sing like Liza or Natasha, you can hear her heart and her pain in her music and she's truly great... you can hear her 1968 original cast recording somewhere online... just google it.

For the person who complained about Judi Dench's singing, you don't know much about musical theatre. It is not all about the musicality of the voice or how pretty it is, it is also about the emotion the is expressed when singing the lyrics. There are tons of Broadway and West End musical performers who have do not have traditional singing voices, but, like DAME Judi Dench are able to make you feel the emotion when they sing. Her version of Send in the Clowns (Hey, Mr. Producer and 30th Anniversitry of A Little Night Music) makes me cry every time I hear it. That is true talent and I will welcome it in a musical any day. If I want to hear just pretty voices, I will listen to opera or a pop album (which are so doctored, it's a wonder if the person sounds like that live). And, by the by, Judi Dench was the original Sally Bowles in London, so I think she has enough chops to call herself a singer

I am a HUGE fan of Judi Dench. While I was looking for an episode of As time goes by, I came across this incredibly bizare recording. Do us all a favor Dame Judi Dench, and please stick to acting instead of singing. All else aside I am only 11 and I think that Dame Judi is an incredibly talented actress who deserves her stuff being on iTunes.Just stay away from singing.
