The only word that best describes Cesaria Evora's voice is Beautiful. She makes singing seem effortless and simple. But the truth is, Cape Verde's Evora is keep the traditional morna tunes alive. Her voice carries romance, happiness, blues, warmth and passion. She manages to show us what her country has to offer just through music.
This album in particular, dedicated to the island of Sao Vicente where she was born, is an amazing trinket in her career. My personal favorite is "Crepuscular Solidao" a duet with Bonnie Raitt, whom I admire and look at the uter most respect in the music industry. It's not only Evora's romantic vocals that make this track stand out but Bonnie's ability to bring her "soulness" into this song. You feel both Raitt and Evora as if they were singing to one another and not to mention Raitt's small yet amazing guitar solo.
I'm telling you buy this album and you'll fall in love with Cesaria Evora. She's the only Bareftoo Diva for a reason.
