I'm not a fan of musicals BUT I am a MADONNA fan! I can't believe how she transformed her voice (and her physical look in the film). She is PERFECTION!!!

I'm a huge ALW fan (well, Phantom is pretty much the best thing EVER) and so it made sense to me that I fell in love with this when my mother brought it home when I was eleven. We listened to it obsessively and I'm so glad it's only ten bucks now on iTunes!! This is a WONDERFUL achievement for ALW, and I'm so glad I have my own copy now. :)
  • Amazing!

I rediscovered this musical recently and fell in love all over again. Though its worse than blasphemy I have to say the Broadway versions were complete flops in my view. Patti Lupone, while iconic, could not pull off this role musically. The new Evita, well I shudder when I think of it. The woman playing Eva Peron could shatter glass, and not in an impressive Julie Andrews Victor/Victoria way. Madonna has a beautiful voice in this version. I will also admit to being very partial to Antonio Banderas as Che. He may be a tad difficult to understand at times, however his voice is delightful. I wish he sang more often in films. In short, listen to the clips and if you disagree buy a different copy, but this remains my one choice for Evita.
  • I Love The Broadway & Film's production!! BUT Madonna SHINES!

The only thing that draws me to this soundtrack is antonio banderas and the beautiful lyrics, thanks to tim rice and andrew lloyd webber. But otherwise, i try so hard to listen to Madonna but she's so very bland. To be honest she's not the best singer and a strong part like evita should go to a strong singer. I feel like this soundtrack could be so much better if the part of Evita went to another. I'll stick to the broadway recordings for now...

Antonio Banderes can mispronounce anything and still be sexy as hell. My first musical I ever saw live was evita and it was in Washington dc (at the Warner theater). This musical is truely amazing but having performed in this musical years later and listening to many different variations of the songs, I find that the madonna version is much better quality recording than the 79 album (obviously since they were done so far apart) and I thought that Antonio Banderes did an excellent job with his role (plus that sexy voice of his and his good looks didn't hurt either).
  • WOnderful!

I will admit to be introduced to Evita through this movie and soundtrack so it is my preferred primer. But I have a copy also of the original 1979 cast recording. While LuPone is a stronger vocalist by far, I prefer the film soundtrack for many reasons. Antonio Banderas' Che is excellent. This version also includes "The Lady's got Potential" which is simply stunning. This is Madonna's best work, singing and acting. I believed her as Evita...and her singing is less forced or stagey than LuPone. This Evita is human, flawed and terrific, and if the theatre training is missing with M, the emotion of the story is certainly not. Hello and Goodbye, Che and Eva's Waltz, and Another Suitcase and Another Hall are stronger here. I do give the nod to LuPone for the signature Don't Cry for Me...but M does an admirable job. A true Evita fan will own all versions, and this especially for the two new songs.
  • Good. Broadway is 10 times better.

Evita has always been one of my favorite musicals. I've almost grown up with it in a sense. Anyway, when I first heard there was a movie of it, I immieditely rushed out to buy it. The singing, is alright. Madonna is FABULOUS compared to her 'normal' singing I guess you could call it. Antonio Banderas is a good singer, but is horrible at pronoucing things, which in my opinion (since it is an operaretta) is VERY important. Alan Parker is ALRIGHT, but Jimmy Nail (though his part being minor) really is fantastic. Anyway, I'll get to my point. The album by itself is good. The only problem I really had with this album by itself is Antonio Banderas's prononciation of things sometimes. If you are fan of the movie, then by all means buy it. It's a great deal (31 songs for 10.00!). If you are looking to learn about Evita, and only planning on buying 1 album INVEST 30 DOLLARS IN THE ORGINAL CAST! Trust me! I have listened to every Evita soundtrack and the orginal Broadway cast is with no doubt THE BEST! This album, although good I felt almost butchered the songs by making them pop songs. They're still enjoyable none-the-less, which is why it earns 4 stars. So all-in-all. Good overall album. Very pop, still enjoyable. If you're looking to learn about Evita and only buying 1 album, buy the orginal cast, it's a million times better
