I've listened to this album on a weekly basis for the last four plus decades. Every track deserves the highest of praise. It a jazz album for people who don't normally like jazz. "Got It in Your Soulness?" Perhaps one of the best tunes ever recorded for road trips. I've had to pull over--on more than one occassion--from stomping my foot, bobbing my head, and shaking my behind to the amazing right hand of Les.

I had the record years ago and it blew my mind how live jazz can be recorded well. There’s a local pub near me that has this on the jukebox and it always gets people going, toe-tapping and even people say I have good taste in music. It’s an absolute classic and certainly would be in the small stack of Deserted Island discs. You’ll listen to it many times over.

First heard "Compared to What" in my friend's basement....1976-77. I didn't hear the intro by the DJ, so had no idea who played it. I loved it so much that i called the radio station and found out who it was. Next, was finding it. I scoured nearly every record store in Chicago and couldn't find it. Just when I thought I was doomed, I went back to college in Peoria, IL.......and there it was.....in a record store in Peoria, IL. This album is on my list of 5 jazz albums i would want to have with if i was stranded on a deserted island. For the record...along with Miles Davis "Kind of Blue", Stanley Turrentine "Sugar", Jeff Beck "Blow by Blow", and Jean Luc Ponty "Aurora". Buy this now....thank me later!!!!

It's not available as a single because they have to be true to the lyrics..."possession is the motivation" Great album never the less

come on guys, only allowing purchase of 'Compared To What' if you buy the entire album is so greedy and not cool. It is one of the best songs ever on the planet, but your marketing is going to take it down off that pedestal because not everyone is going to spend $10 bucks to hear that song. Please allow purchase of that one song!!!

COMPARED TO WHAT is absolutely brilliant, nothing like it since, genius then and now. But (and while the rest of the album IS top drawer)--- why can't COMPARED TO WHAT as a single tune be purchased and not only as an entire album? Thanks, NC
