The title says it all! Bette shows us why she's worthy of the title SuperStar. With great raw vocals and rare emotional depth she takes us across a truly diverse landscape from the hilarious rendering of LeaderOf The Pack(she uses her tough shiksa voice) to moments of absolute pathos with SuperStar Bette and does it all! When I listen to this album now its like hearing it for the first time even though the first time was in 1972.

This has to be one of the greatest debut records of the rock era. A lot will dispute Miss M's rock value. At the time she released this lp NOBODY was doing this kinda work. She blew onto the scene like a fiercesome tornado and deserved every award she won at that time. She has also proven a consistent force in entertainment. Every song on this disc is stellar. From "Do You Want To Dance" to "Friends" a must for any collection. Good work Miss M. !!!

I discovered this album quite by accident, but I played it over and over -- and over and over and over, lost in its haunting beauty, stylistic virtuosity and explosive fearlessness. All alone with Bette, this album gave me hope that melancholy could be transformative. Gorgeous sadness (...i.e., "Hollow ancient eyes"...Hello in there) that lifts itself to celebratory bliss (Friends!). This album heals, validates and, ultimately, restores one's humanity -- even that of this erstwhile misfit lost in the haze of late 70's dazzzle and glare.

I have loved Bette for a number of years(from the bath houses to the big screen). Loved her on stage and Loved her movies (The Rose, Beaches and For the Boys!!!!!!) and the soundtracks for those movies. She is a true icon and someone to be loved by all. I can never wait for the next big Bette moment.

The discovery of "The Divine Miss M" the year I graduated from high school helped me define a clear appreciation of musical diversity. From the classic "Am I Blue" to the original arrangement for "Do You Want to Dance" I was hooked on this voice. The deeply felt emotions of "Hello In There" painted a familiar picture of the late 70's and the struggle to understand loss and aging. "Superstar" is sung so beautifully that anyone who has ever loved and lost can identify with the almost breathless angst of being the one left who stil asks why. While Ms Midler has produced many other albums that I love, when I hear the first percussion rift of "Do You Want to Dance" my answer has been YES! YES! please dance with me over and over again. Triumphant debut that earned her a place on my turntable, my 8 track, my cd and now my iPod for over 30 years. Love this music, its Divine.

I haven't heard Bette sound so good, this cd is rich, full of great songs and it brings back wonderful memories of the fabulous 60's & 70's. This will surely take you way back to the days of summer, with happy friends and family picnic, saturday nights and whatever else you can think of.
