DOOM shines through lyrically here. Every track featured some line that’ll blow you away or get stuck in your head for days. Every bar builds on the next to complete the lyrical percussion. Songs like Meat Grinder and Great Day have little in the way of actual narrative, but make up for it greatly in rhyme density and punchlines. The conceptual half of the album, with pieced-together bizarre storylines built with samples by the great Madlib, is just as amazing. The strange tale of the Illest Villains keeps the album feeling cohesive. The duo’s many alter egos, such as Viktor Vuaghn (alias of DOOM) and Quasimoto (Alias of Madlib) guest on a couple tracks on the album as well. The most comedic of which is what is essentially a diss track, performed by Viktor Vaughn, on his ex-girlfriend and the man she cheated with, who turns out to be MF DOOM! For its production, for its sense of humor, for its mystique, for its legendary lyrics, this album is an abstract masterpiece.

an absolute hip-hop classic, one of the best records in the genres history. DOOM and Madlib at the top of their games make a staple of an album that served as inspiration for a majority of artists in the game today. Must listen for anyone who calls themselves a hip-hop fan. RIP MF DOOM!
