  • Classic Zimmer!

Now this is "Classic" Zimmer! Way better than the crap he gave us with Batman v Superman and Man of Steel! I love the blend of synthsizer and orchestra - welcome back Hans, you had me worried there for a couple of movies!

After finding out this film was going to be made, I was very excited and anxious to see what mister Zimmer would come up with. Without going into detail, I'll say that this wasn't what I was expecting. I wanted the ambience again, that the other two had. I remember the days, when Hans Zimmer's name was on a score, I would just purchase it. While not listening to one bit of it, because I knew it would be mind blowing. But since the evolution of technology, I can preview; and let me tell you, you almost got me Hans. Almost Han! Almost!
  • Nothing Impressive

I have read the book twice and it was phenomenal. I was hoping the movie is equally impressive, but usually that is a disappointment. We shall see. I expected the music to be far more impressive. It is horrible. I may select a selection but this Hans Zimmer composition is certainly not worth 4-1/2 stars.
  • Inferno, "Experimental"

Overall, a big mess. There are definitely amazing tracks in here, but I would suggest buying them seperately as it saves you money. My favorite tracks consist of Professor, The Cistern, Beauty Awakens the Sould to Act, Elizabeth, and Life Must Have Its Mysteries (Our Own Hell on Earth is also good, but it simply serves as a theme suite). That's the 5-6 best tracks, and you only have to spend $6 rather than $10. The reason I suggest not even bothering with the rest is because Hans wanted to do something "Experimental", or as he put it, "Disorientating". He does that pretty well. I don't know yet how it will hold up in the movie's context, but as standalone music, it's way too much. At points, it even becomes painful to listen to. Yes disorientating, but also shrill, too electronic (not something I say often), and harsh. It falls much more under sound design than music. But the 5-6 tracks I suggested actually reprise the best themes of Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons in a modern Inception-like style, that is very cool and different.

Huge Hans fan, but initial listen makes me think the usual struggle within his music may not be here. Will listen end to end over the weekend.
  • Definitely Ambient Music

Very disappointed by this score, and I was excited for the music ever since the film was announced. Music had a ambient feel so maybe it'll be better with the film. Loved the previous two film scores. Majority of score is synthesized version of previous music.
