Reviews

  • Great Album, Great Rapper but...

Why are all albums associated with Paris (even the ones with Public Enemy) now "Album Only"? And there isn't even a "Complete Album" option. For the last several years I've been buying songs when I had some extra money (buying digital versions of albums I already own on cassette) but no longer I guess. Theres no way I'm paying another $9.99 when there are only 4 songs that I didn't already pay for. I know artist don't make much $ off of albums sales but you could have at least left the "complete album" option available.

Long live Paris! one of the few Bay Area rappers i respect. San Francisco's equivalent to "Strong" Island's Rakim.

Leave the Dog alone until the Dancin is done as Paris says..lol. It's like this album was made yesterday. The same knowledge bomb Paris dropped back in the days fits in perfect with what's still going on today. It's rare a album comes out where you like every single track. This album is one of those rare gems.

Paris, brother preacher, thank you for your contribution to Hip Hop. This album, cut from that post-industrial/post-apocalyptic era of the late 80's is the perfect articulation of the black man's angst during the crack 80's, for it joins west coast sound to black nationalism--not the rhetoric of the essentialized racial uplift through assimilation. This is a black man's album!

The Devil Made Me Do It was the first Paris song I ever heard, the beat pulled me in and reminded me a bit of the Lawrence Fishburn movie Deep Cover. Paris' has always had some intense beats and twice as heavy lyrics. If you enjoy this then check out the Public Enemy / Paris collaboration Rebirth of a Nation. On another note the the side you should see in the Listeners also bought section The D.O.C. - No One Can Do It Better, if you are a fan of Hip-Hop you need to buy that also.

This remastered version of the 90's classic album by Paris is at least as great as the original. When it first came out, I wore the album down (that's right, it was a VINYL!). Paris' lyrics are amazing to listen too. Strong, timely, pointant and full of thought provoking images. Definitly Hip Hop for the thinking man.
