As background for a personal slideshow of pictures from Namibia and South Africa, I chose Amadou & Miriam's Dounia to open. Almost before commenting on the photographs, people who see it ask, "Where did you find this amazing music!" It has broad appeal, and has opened many of my friends' eyes to the richness of music from Africa. Sou ni tilé, as well as any other album by this pair, is highly recommended.
  • By far their best

This album is awesome. Incredibly produced, beautifully arranged songs. It saddened me to see Manu Chao's paws all over their later album. The latter doesn't feel like their album at all, whereas this one really feels like you're hearing their voices and sound and not anyone else's. Sou ni tile is far better than anything else they've done. Start with this!

Three top releases on iTunes for me are: THIS, Blackwater, and Deep Buddha.

I have no idea what they are saying but their music is beautifully constructed. For a band to capture foreign audiences as intensley as they do says alot about a group. Toubala Kono is a great mellow song from beginning to end. Pauvre also is a great song on this album. I used to listen to heavy metal only lol but i got tired of feeling restricted to what was out there. There is alot of good music out there in many languages and Amadou et Mariam is one of them. Its time to think outside the box peoples. Enjoy the music and rock on.

Original and innovative Amadou & Mariam's first release in the USA showcases their versatility. Roots sound tied into great rhythmic style. Too many great songs to mention. Je pense a toi is a great blues ballad, for a rockin guitar song check out C'est la vie. For a reggae like blues tune check out Djandjola, A radio mogo or Dogons. This couple has been a major force in West Africa and is touring USA this summer do not miss a chance to see them live!!!

Amadou & Mariam once again have proved that they are well deserved of the positive feedback and publicity they have received.Everyday, I listen to their songs from my Ipod. I have so many of their songs that I erased all of the American music trash which I was forced to endure...that is until I had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful, fantastic, and pleasant style of music which Amadou & Mariam have given the world. I love their songs! I say to everyone who has the ear to appreciate great music...PURCHASE THEIR ALBUMS and enjoy as I have and continue to do! Vive Amadou & Mariam!!! Tres Bon Musique!!!

Amadou & Mariam came to my attention when I read a review of a new album produced by eurolatino wunderkind Manu Chao. I love Manu's albums, so I went out and found Amadou & Mariam's "Dimanche a Bamako" right away. I wasn't disappointed. Recently, while surfing through the iTunes store, I saw that an older album, "Sou ni tile," from 1999, was available. I downloaded it. This older album is just as beautiful, more straightforward, and soothes the soul with its smooth Malian rhythms. Amadou and Mariam's voices are like rich balms to the soul. This is the kind of music that relaxes and energizes you at the same time. Highly recommended.
