Enamorada Con Banda

When Lucero announced she was recording Banda, I thought, "Whoa! Seriously? Why????" Why mess with a genre which historically has been the cousin we invite to the wedding but would be okay if they didn't bother to showing up. But then Lucero got hold of it. She adds femininity, grace, and elegance to a genre of music that is known for all the opposite. Many now have added "La Barbie de la Banda" to her previous nickname "La Novia de America" (the sweetheart of (the) Americas). Her willingness to place herself in the hands of and learn from the top producer in this genre is evidence that 40 years into her career not only has she remained humble but that she understands that she has 1) not arrived (has to work and earn it every day), 2) one must stay relevant, 3) risk may mean you make a mistake but without that risk, one achieves nothing. Her creativity, sassy-fun outlook at life are evident in her selections. Who would think to take songs that were pop hits in the 70s when we were little and record them in this style?
