  • Cant stop listening

I just recently discovered this album and while I was a little nervous finding out it was a concept album, the more I listen to this the more I like it. Frankly I’m blown away by the writing and performances and attention to detail on the record. In particular, The Red Storm is something I can listen to multiple times. It’s a really interesting prog rock tune that makes me think a little of Porcupine Tree while Khedive really shows off the chops of the keyboardist. . The whole album somehow manages to sound like the Styx you know with the lush harmonies and arrangements, vintage synths cutting through the mix and JV and Tommy Shaw’s great guitar work while still sounding fresh and exciting. Highly recommend checking this out
  • Styx but without it Soul

Well engineered Styx album. Sounds like Styx. Mission accompished. But missing the down to earth soul Styx had with Dennis Deyoung. I really enjoy this album as one complete work. I don't enjoy the songs individually as much. I listen to this album as if it is a movie from start to finish. If you want to hear new Styx sounding music this is it. How the music lyrics relate to us is just as important as the sound. Overall good but missing the common man soul relatability.
  • The Perfect Example

This album is a perfect example of ‘Too Much Time On My Hands’, when a band has nothing else to do but churn out rehashed melodies from the yester-years. No rock that competes with today’s sound, and the shows have a larger section for fans in wheelchairs and walkers. Sad. Very sad. And I can’t believe someone gave this album 5-stars.

All the previous 5 star reviews are gone....? This was an unexpected surprise as I thought they’d not record a CD of all new material again. But not only did they do it, they put out what is easily their best work since 1978. Big catchy harmonies, creative songs that stick in your head, and a story line that is not cheesy but also not required to think about to enjoy the music. It’s a release where the songs get better the deeper you get into it, Red Storm and The Outpost are phenomenal. Now be warned, the DDY crowd will berate this release, but don’t let that sway your chance to enjoy what is a very excellent release. Again, this is a great release, sit back with some headphones on and get lost in the high quality stereo mix!
