How eagerly I anticipated this second album of Lucy Thomas, the gorgeous teenager from Wigan in the greater Manchester area who first enchanted the public as contestant of The Voice Kids UK in 2018. Lucy is one of those rare talents that already at an early age do not just command a stunning voice but that strike a chord deep within you gently touching your soul. The last and only time I experienced such emotions with a singer that young before was in 2004 when I discovered the wonderful Hayley Westenra. I‘ve lost count how many times I listened to “Premiere”, Lucy’s brilliant debut album, and every time I couldn’t help but marvel at the power and clarity of her voice. Just one year later, at only age 16, Lucy blasts us away with a level of vocal maturity that must shame many top-notch songstresses in their 30’s. Just look at the tracks Lucy selected to cover: “Hero” by Mariah Carey, “Run” by Snow Patrol and covered by Leona Lewis, and “My Heart Will Go on” by Celine Dion. Yet, Lucy delivers so phenomenally it will leave your mouth gaping wide open. And if her ravishingly beautiful renditions of “Memory” from “Cats” as well as of “Say Something” by A Great Big World (a duet with her likewise greatly talented sister Martha) do not have you completely in tears, chances are you have no heart. Every single song on this album will delight you more than the last. And when the final note fades out, you will know why the title of this album is “Encore”, because that’s all you will want to say - over and over again.
