I once saw an interview with Mack. He was talking about song writing. He talked about reading the Bible like it is his job. That helps keep the music rooted in truth. That was always why I loved best about Mack’s music. He inspired myself and my wife to write the same way and to keep that in mind when selecting songs for worship. Parts of this lacks that. I’m not sure if I’m missing something. I understand the idea of come as you are. Everyone can come to Christ with repentance and you will receive forgiveness. That is for everyone by grace. Talking about come as you are. Come as you want. Be who you are. That is A)not in the Bible. B) missing repentance and therefore forgiveness. We are called to be followers of Christ and not to be who we are and to come when we feel like it or when it is convenient for us. Acts 17:30-31 but now God commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man (Jesus) he has appointed. Mathew 4:17 (red letters)“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will. That sounds like the opposite of come when you want and be who you are. I love you Mack but something is missing here. It might not be the way it was meant but that is how it is coming across. So far I listened through once kind of half listening. This song caught my attention and made me uneasy. I still need to dive into the rest of the lyrics.
