I'm not objective, as I'm a big KV fan. But I love the record. To me, the bookends of "Wakin" are masterpieces, and some of this has the same vibe. I just wish they were also 10 minutes long. Likewise, the middle of "believe" is just unbelievably beautiful, one gut wrenching stunner after another, and some of this record feels like those songs, but less spare, with a little more of an aura about them. Some of this could get country airplay, if they opened their doors just a little. If you listen carefully, past the slacker meandering, Kurt's singing on parts of this is really emotional, and even beautiful, which I never thought I'd say. I'm grateful for the art. I wish more people could appreciate it, as I think he's the best music maker out there, bar none. But if that's what it takes for him to make this absolutely-no-compromises work, then I guess that's how it has to be.
