Really enjoyed some interesting and mature lyrics. Nothing else to compare out there. Unless, you just love Olivia Rodrigues music and lyrics . Nah.
This is great

I didn’t care for CYR. I’ve been listening to them since Gish. This is great.
Evolution baby!

This is meant to be consumed with the needle dropping on ATUM and play all the way through. Some very different sounds and songs but they all have meaning and purpose. A few heaters along the way. Empires is a banger. (Even better live btw) beguiled and Spellbinding also hit hard. Overall a strong album for the open minded fan. I love it.
Great but not epic

Decent album. Stand out tracks in my humble opinion are: Beyond The Vail, Empires, Beguiled , Spellbinding, The Good In Goodbye, Hooligan, Steps In Time, Avalanche, Moss, That Which Animates, In Lieu of Failure, Harmageddon, and Fireflies.
Thoroughly enjoying this SP release!!!

This is really solid music. My favorite release they have done since Mellon Collie for sure. It’s not a SP tribute album; Billy has pushed the envelope of what they can be. You can’t listen to it with 1994 ears, you have to embrace it today, and tomorrow. Billy has definitely found a way to look forward while giving a nod to the past instead of settling on an either/or scenario. Its fresh. Its stripped down, yet so rich and complex. Soaring moments too. Much less pretense, much less “I am a musical genius and demand you to like these songs”, and more “I have written a good batch of songs and would like to invite you to enjoy them if you like.” There are some incredible moments and hooks. I anticipate listening to this album a year from now and finding new gems that catch my ear.

Atum is a continuation of Cyr’s heavy synth based sounds, while still retaining enough of the hard rock vibes that made them legendary. The album is spread over three different acts; The first is by far the best and the 3rd is the worst. Corgan is at his best when his light high-pitched voice is flowing against the background of the music, not when it’s the focal point. Overall this is a great album that tries to do way too much, say what you will about Billy but you can’t say he’s not bold and innovative. I just wish that Corgan would do more guitar solos as he’s an incredibly underrated guitarist and now he should have free rein to do so.
Well done

It’s much easier to make it through 36 songs of ATUM than it is Metallica’s new 12 song album. I’ve never been the biggest Pumpkins fan but this album has depth and each song is unique. Somehow it manages to keep my interest despite the vocals. Favorite songs are Spellbinding, Beguiled, and Steps in Time.
Interesting

There are tons of great tracks here! Looking at the few highest graded popular songs, it’s interesting that those chosen, that it might be because those tracks don’t include a long melancholic orchestral or synthy intro. I personally love it all. Gish, and other albums were mostly in your face with a wall of sound. Corgan is one of the few artists who is afforded the freedom to reinvent himself and I can completely embrace and respect that level of perpetuity? He’s (Smashing Pumpkins) timeless, unapologetic and thankfully, unaffected by trends. He will always be one of the greatest contributors of art!
One of Their Best!
