One of my top 5 favorite albums by Miles Davis. This was his classic, and original, style of music. Of course, everything Miles has done has been stellar. A must-have classic!

I bought this recording when it was first released at the Sam Goody's in NYC on 48th St. I had this album in preservation bags until I sold my collection in 2003. The sound created by a " West Coast vs. East Coast" style is not generally mentioned except passively in the back liner notes, but it is there. I think the Feldman piano lines are richer, but obviously the Hancock selection, by default, was Davis' legacy for more than a decade. This is a must have for it's "dual" nature and you'll have as much fun as I had "detecting" the very distinct style differences. "Baby Won't You Please Come Home" is the jewel in the whole collection. The two "bonus" selections are too extracted for me, and do not follow the "flavor" of the original Columbia recording.

I am currently a jazz piano/performance major, and Miles Davis is one of my favorite performers and composers. This is an incredible album; each solo is great for transcribing, and the melodies really hit your soul. Definitely recommend it.
