This is the film score that really set the standard for everything that came afterwards, and this recording is the best way to relive it. When I was first looking for a recording of the score of King Kong (1933), I was torn between this version (recorded by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra) and the truly original version, practically lifted from the film. I don't have a single regret. The quality of this recording is superior, and you'll be hard pressed to find real differences between the overall sound and feel of music--they might as well have been the original orchestra members using modern recording technology. As for the music itself, it is not only historically significant but a thrilling listen on its own terms as well. Sit back, relax, and let Steiner's masterpiece take you back to the first time you met Kong.
