The Be Good Tanyas is a grouping that never fails to move me. I find their music stunningly happy, melancholy and soulful all at once. Please support them and buy ALL their music! My personal favorites from this album are Scattered Leaves and Ootishenia. It's hard to get tired of listening to them! Hope there's another album in the works!

i love the be good tanyas, and find their sound has only improved without the weight of jolie holland's self-conscious vocal stylings. they've dropped the dead weight and played to their strengths. this is a fantastic album!

Every one of these ladies deserves five stars. I was so excited when I saw that they had a new album out. This album does not disappoint. The songs here grow in your soul and give life to your heart. Song for R. is particularly moving and my favorite.

I loved the first two albums - played them incessantly. I heard them live - thought about the music constantly. But this album is a disappointment. It is like a shallow imitation done by a look-alike group. I don't listen to it any more. I hope they make a comeback - they were unlike anyone else.

I just got this album cuz i wanted something different from the usuall things i listen to (damien rice, iron & wine, bright eyes, john mayer, third eye blind..) i was definitely impressed. it's different, but its so beautiful. the only track i didn't like from the album was "out of the wilderness" most of the songs are upbeat. i was scared that it was going to be too country, but it was perfect. i think the banjo is probably the prettiest and most stirring sounding instrument (iron & wine made me feel this way too).

Don't let this be your first Be Good Tanyas album, but don't overlook it either. Vocals and harmonies are as beautiful as ever but the general feel is a little more mellow that their other work. Get some of their earlier stuff first but be sure to add this to your collection at some point. The remake of "When Doves Cry" is totally fresh and enjoyable.

After discovering Blue Horse (now one of my all-time favorite albums), I was disappointed by Chinatown, which seemed to lack some of the energy on Blue Horse. Here it is back again, more upbeat. I especially like Scattered Leaves and the When Doves Cry cover. If you love Blue Horse, you'll love this one too.
