Reviews

  • Best recording of the Stravinsky symphonies (by far)

I live in NYC and borrowed as many versions of these symphonies that I could find from the NY public library. Spent a lot of time listening to all of them and without a doubt this is my favorite. So it's not like I bought something and am defending my purchase. Stravinsky's pacing and timing are perfect. It sounds like Stravinsky, not like someone's idea of what Stravinsky should sound like. The quality of the recordings is also excellent for it's day. Believe me, you can't go wrong with this.

Stravinsky conducted the CBS Symphony Orchestra in renditions of 3 Symphonies. He did this in the last few years of his life, when he was almost completely deaf. The regular conductor led his orchestra in replaying excerpts which were edited into the recording. This CD is not worth it.
