Is there any wonder, listening to this record, why an entire genre evolved from this humble band? This album completely cooks....Lee Harvey Oswald alone is worth the price of admission. In your mind, when you pass a dim roadside bar on a dark two-lane road in Jamaica, this is what is coming out of the window. Grab a six-pack of Red Stripe and put on your dancing shoes!

This is a great album, I have nothing but praise to say about it other than one thing... For starters, The Skatalites are a legendary ska band that has backed The Wailers (Tosh, Marley, and Wailer) and Bob Marley as well as countless others. They are known far and wide in the ska world and I have had the priveledge of seeing them in 96 I think, all original members except Dodd. Now Roland is gone... Hope they still tour from time to time. They are great live and on album. They are incredibley talented and are worth checking out. This album is like a greatest hits live, awesome. They are a tight band who deserve so much more recognition by the main stream. So the but part is that the recording quality is a touch off. What do expect from a club in Jamaica in 1983. Not bad though, just worth mentioning. All tracks are incredible and the horn playing is superb... upright bass is awesome... drums are smooth and
well executed. Basically I am saying you should absolutely by this.

Maybe not the best comp, but is there a bad Skatalites song? I think not. Lot of greats on this one. This is an awesome live recording, not sure of the record date...thing is its hard to make out the details on the drums in the old recordings. The old recordings have a great feel of their own, but as a drummer, it was cool to hear whats going on. Pick up a few tracks on this if you want some live Skatalites.
