I've been following Jan's career for a few year now, and he does nothing but impress me more and more with everything he gets to put together. I had the pleasure to see him perform live once and it was amazing!! if you have a chance don't miss this one. Is a fantastic album recorded in very high definition. If you are into classical music, you got to give Jan a chance!! he's one of those musical geniuses that I really admire and will never be famous or recognized by the media. Hope you like this one as much as I did:)

I don't know if Vogler or Sony decided to toss in excerpts of Shostakovich's film scores and the Jazz Suites, but they combine to make little more than stuffing in this quirky concert, even with Vogler's earnest sawing. The case of Jimi Hendrix's "Machine Gun", Vogler and The Knights' passion and virtuosity miss the mark in a ragged attempt to capture the music's energy. I admire the attempt, but not the result.

Wonderful CD! Great cello playing by Jan Vogler. The Knights are really cool. A must buy. 1st movement of the concerto is highlight of the CD. Love the Waltzes too. Really interesting combination of the works.

Not sure why sony invested in another cellist when they have Yo Yo Ma. Vogler is OK but isn't quite as enthralling as Ma. He fairs better on the shorter Shostakovich pieces but his concerto isn't quite up to snuff. The sound is too thin and his concept as a whole is not convincing. I'm baffled as to why he feels the need to conclude with a Hendrix transcription. This sort of thing has been done so many times that it's hardly origional. I'd pass on this one.
