This album is so ridiculously good. It took some time but it really grew on me and I love this album and these songs even more than the hit songs from Oracular Spectacular.
  • Sounds like a dystopian beach boys

I really do love this album! It definitely is a huge change from oracular spectacular, but definitely in a good way. The moment I heard the vocals in “its working”, I really thought it sounded like what it would sound like if The Beach Boys grew up in a dystopian society! I would highly suggest this album if you’re into psychedelic rock/pop music!

In my opinion this album is better than Oracular Spectacular.

It’s the best piece of work that’s ever come out of the minds of the geniuses that are Andrew and Ben.

Honestly my favorite album from you guys! I keep coming back to it. I think you know it’s a really good album and laugh at people who don’t like it (mainly because they listened to it once) This album is a masterpiece.
  • One of the great progressive albums of the 2010s

This is a contemporary progressive rock album, not unlike many of that format from the 70s, but with current instrumentation. It's sort of a cryptic record, lacking much of the repetition that makes songs quickly sensible, which is why it was problematic for much of MGMT's audience at the time of its release. Tracks like Siberian Breaks are full of ideas that stream from one to another--they flow nicely, but the lack of repetation in the song structure means the album takes many, many plays for the evolving musical phrases to get into your head. I'm writing this review almost eight years after I bought this record to say how much, after several dozen listens, I really enjoy this record. It's so full of good ideas that it took me this long to really absorb it. And, in that sense, it's a very special album in my collection.
  • Grown To Be One of My New Favorites!

When I first got this album the Christmas after it came out, I wasn’t sure what to think of it. I liked some of the songs (particularly Siberian Breaks and Congratulations), but the rest were just okay to me (not too good but not bad). Nevertheless, I’ve been working my way back into this album and it has been a wonderful experience! It makes me happy, sad, contemplative and everything in between (like Paul McCartney on “pet sounds” by The Beach Boys)! It’s Working is one of my favorite songs of all time, straight outta the 1960’s! It’s a beautiful ride-this album! It takes me back and makes me enjoy life more, especially through there openness, honesty, and willingness to chase their dreams over the success of only “radio hits.” Way to go, guys! It’s been great!

MGMT are unlike any band I've ever come across. They make music that is so captivatingly beautiful, and so interesting. This album is amazing. Worth the buy. So glad I started listening to this band.
  • Warning. don't be fooled, do not buy.

Seriously, this is about as bad as it can get. I don't even know what this is supposed to be really. Everything sounds so rinky dink and lost in itself. It's basically a studio disaster. I hear they changed their sound to be less mainstream. I doubt that. I think their lack of talent really came to the surface. I could be wrong, but as a versed music fan of various genres and decades, I can find no way of possibly conceiving how this could be considered good. It's worse than milli vanilli (sorry milli)...don't buy.
