Yes, it's one part of Wagner's Tristan and Isolde (the prelude over and over), but the Prague Philharmonic does it SO beautifully.
  • Must have

One of the best movies I have seen in years and irrespective of what has been posted the soundtrack in my mind is more then worth the price, to be able to listen to the music and reflect the part where it was in the movie only adds to the pleasure of both the movie and the music.

I agree with Raccoons that it's completely a scam for this to be called a "soundtrack." Von Triers uses only and entirely (and eventually tiresomely) a few passages from Wagner's Tristan in his film. That's not a soundtrack, that's opera outtakes, and if you like the music for the film, listen to the opera itself. I will say, however, that this "soundtrack" does capture the esthetic of the film pretty well -- gorgeous bogosity. Watching Kirsten Dunst drag herself through the beautiful Matthew Barney-inspired settings of the film for two hours as The End looms and this pretty music drones on in decontextualized form was ultimately as empty and meaningless an experience as this "soundtrack" is. It's been said that the only people who would use the term middlebrow are people to whom it applies, but dag. I'm not even a big Wagner fan, but I think this "soundtrack" is to Wagner as a box of Wheat Thins is to a field of waving grain.
  • Gladly have purchased this just to support the film-makers...

I likely already own this music. But not in the context of this fantastic film. So much added life after experiencing it in context of the film and so happy to support the people that added new life to the most classic of classical music.

Are you, iTunes, trying to convince me to pay $6.93 for an album that has a single song segmented into 7 parts. When I can just pop over the classical section and get this song in its entirety for $1.29? NOT THIS TIME ITUNES, NOT THIS TIME.
  • A galactic score of atmospheric emotional tone with superb heavenly rendition!

This is the first time after so many years that a soundtrack such as this for Lars Von Tier's latest film "Melancholia" has touched all the senses in a very profound way. The music sears into the inner core of your being that frightens and delights all at the same time. Kudos to all who are responsible in creating this fanstastic soundtrack! Don't forget to watch the film. Melancholia is a must-see film of the year. The visuals are painterly with the Nordic iciness the burns the screen. The cast of Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Kiefer Sutherland delivers a tour de force performance!
