Mary Gauthier is indeed an excellent songwriter but the best song on this particular album - "Cigarette Machine" - is authored by the illustrious Fred Eaglesmith. Fred also wrote "Your Sister Cried" on an earlier Mary Gauthier album, yet Mary's version is far better and is in fact one of Ms. Gauthier's best efforts - vocally and musically.

Some may not like her voice but I love it. You cannot deny her ability to write a song though!

Been a long-time fan of Mary. Already got nine of the songs on this one in my library. Still going to buy the entire album and start listening to them again like it was the first time. Only thing wrong with this offer is that the album price should be $11.99 and the singles should be $1.29. And she's worth more than that ! ! !

For some reason Apple always stops me from downloading at least 1 song on any of the recent Mary Gautheir albums. They will let me download every song but Cigarette Machine, which I really want. They keep saying that my computer is not authorized and when I put my password in it says it is already authorized and we start a cycle of that. It is definitely authorized because it lets me download all the other songs plust 2,000+ songs I have downloaded over the years. Anyone else run into this problem? The weird thing is it only happens on Mary's CD's?

This is some of the most honest music you will ever hear. Clever beyond measure. Mary Gauthier is our best living song writer.

We saw Mary live at The Bluebird Cafe last week and it was a revelation! She is a formidable storyteller and a wonderful songwriter. She was engaging and her music is very powerful. Tell everyone you know!

iTunes, This woman deserves a review from one of your hacks. She is an excellent songwriter and performer. Ignoring her work is a bad reflection on your musical aesthetic.
