This reinterpretation of these songs shows a huge improvement in musicianship across the entire band. This is one of the few albums I can say I still love listening to after ten years. It was really tastefully mixed, every musicians parts shine through at the right times-and these songs still have a ton of heart after so long.

Anyone growing up with Yellowcard knows this album was their first major hit, but going back to listen to the songs with a more mature mindset, I appreciate the songs that much more. This acoustic version is definitely worth purchasing, and if the first time you heard "Ocean Avenue" you got goosebumps, they will come back ten-fold, guaranteed.

Sounds like a kidzbop version of the original album. No emotions, just sounds like terrible covers.
  • Great listen if you loved the original

Honestly, this album is great. I'm a big Yellowcard fan, and I love it! A little skeptical on some of the songs that were already in a way acoustic, but overall, the album was great. I'm reading all the 'Critical Reviews' and half of them are complete idiots. It's acoustic. It's the same album as 'Ocean Avenue' just they're all played acoustically, just so you know.

This album just has so much magic to it. A song by song review: Way Away: Thanks to Sean's Violin and Ryan's vocals, this song sounds very much like the original. This is in no way a bad thing. 90/100 Breathing: Again, Sean's violin is what reminds us of the riff we heard 10 years ago. The chorus is subdued which takes away some of the original energy and strength of the song. 86/100 Ocean Avenue: Given how many acoustic covers they'd played over the years, this one was going to have to be something special. And it is. It's Ocean Avenue like you've never heard it before. And wish you always had. 96/100 Empty Apartment: Wow, what a surprise here. Ryan shows off a new, much lower voice in this one. If you're looking for stuff that Yellowcard couldn't have done 10 years ago, here it is. I would have liked a bit more "explosion" like in the original, but pretty nonetheless. 92/100 Life of a Salesman: I was never a big fan of the original, so this may be biased. To me, it's the weakest song on the album, but Ryan's softer vocals help the remake, in my opinion. 81/100 Only One: Let's be honest, this is what we all wanted to hear so we could sing (or screech, whatever) it to our loved ones. Just like Ocean Avenue, Yellowcard knew they had to show us something new, and they delivered. Wow. 95/100 Miles Apart: Acoustic or not, they still let LP go all out on this one. And it's all the better for it. The riff is VERY pretty in acoustic form and legitimately outdoes the original by leaps and bounds. Trust me, this one is something unique. 93/100 Twenty Three: The original thrived off its energy and you can sense a lot of it is lost here. Another low point on the album, but c'mon, this isn't exactly a song made for acoustic. And we all love Sean, but, the lack of Ryan's vocals is very noticeable. 83/100 View From Heaven: This is the one song from the album that sounds the closest to the original. Acoustic does nothing but make this one more powerful. Ryan still sings with all the emotion he did a decade ago. 90/100 Inside Out: Another song that benefits from the acoustic riff, mostly because it adds another dimension to the lyrics, which is usually a good thing. Ryan's vocals carry the pre-choruses and he doesn't let us down. 89/100 Believe: Yes, Sean still rocks that violin. And if you're here to see a violinist take the lead on a rock song, this is it. The subdued guitars let Sean shine. We all love Ryan, but this isn't his best vocal performance. Listen for the violin. 86/100 One Year, Six Months: So who expected this to be the best song on the album? I loved the original acoustic, but was worried that this would sound just like the original. Leave it to Yellowcard to surprise and make me fall in love with them all over again. The piano is nothing short of magical here. The vocals surpass the original on all counts. The violin is so perfectly timed, it'll pull right on your heartstrings. I can't say enough things about this song; it's arguably Yellowcard's best. 99/100 Back Home: This one has the exact feel I think Yellowcard was looking for when they first wrote this song. I think a lot of us felt the tone of Back Home was a little strange hearing it for the first time. This one is spot on. Let those memories flood back under another sunny day in Californ-i-a. 95/100 Yes, this album is incredible. If you had to buy one song, let it be One Year Six Months. Trust me.
