Every moment of this work by Konitz, the master of improvisation, is a virtual treatise on how intelligent, captivating, and almost poetic jazz improvisation can be. His version of the profound classic, Monk’s Round Midnight, is among the most compelling I have ever heard and that is saying a lot given the stature of that work and the giants who have interpreted it. Interesting that Blue Note included this version in their top 100. This is a remarkable album in every way. An absolute most for any jazz aficionado.
