Being out of the country, I wasn't able to attend the performance. This recording makes me even sorrier I had to miss it, yet so, so grateful to be able to imagine the night. The gut-wrencing personification of "I Am the Bullet" to the open arms of "San Francisco" will take you there. Can't wait for the opportunity to see it performed in one of the other cities it will travel to.
  • It was an honor to perform!

Over the years SFGMC has world premiered many incredible works. However, this hands down is the most impressive one to date! The ability to impact lives is why I joined. Never in a million years did I think I'd have the privilege to sing such and incredible masterpiece! It was only made more powerful by the chorus' direct tie to Harvey Milk's death. To realize I was singing "I Am Harvey Milk" with men who sang the chorus's first public performance 35 yrs ago, on the night he was murdered, was incredibly humbling. Everything leading up to the performances was more than the chorus ever dreamed. The only word I have to describe the journey is "EPIC". I hope everyone who buys "I Am Harvey Milk" enjoys listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it. -David W.

These songs share Harvey Milk's iconic story by carrying you through a wide range of emotions. From the lows of dread and solemnity in "I am the Bullet", hauntingly beautiful reflection in "Was I Wrong?", and the maddening drudgery reflected in "Sticks and Stones", to the highs of sheer elation in "You are Here", weekend fun on "Friday night", overflowing gratitude that can only be expressed by repeated "Thank You"s, and incredulous victory and validation through a "Lavender Pen," there is so much in this retelling of Harvey's life that everyone can relate to. "San Francisco" will tug at your heartstrings, and you will be sent off with the inspirational "Leap" and motivational "Tired of the Silence." SFGMC's performance is absolutely electrifying, and Harvey's timeless message of hope is heartwarming and ennobling. I just can't seem to say enough good things about this masterpiece.

This is a really powerful piece of music, start – to finish. Oh, to be in that theatre when it was recorded. It doesn't matter if you’ve ever even been to San Francisco, but the song with that title will rip your heart out. I had a cathartic cry that was good for the sole. There’s a disco number - “Friday Night” that has the strings and pulsing drive of those great old songs of the late 70s. I love that song! The whole thing is so well crafted. Hats off to the composer (who happens to be the lead!!! Wow – what a voice!!). Really great job by the chorus, too! So beautifully powerful. Thank you, everyone who made this. I will cherish it. I promise.
