Pike and crew deliver again. hard to imagine a band more then a decade into their recording career and being able to release arguably their best overall album. Hard to pick out favorite songs as this entrre album has Pike riffage at it's finest. The Black Plot opens and the album never lets up. Buy this one for sure....

Thulsa Doom helped make Conan the Barbarian who he is by killing his parents in front of him and then chaining him to a millstone until he was big and strong enough to go fight in the blood pits. Someone must have done the same thing for Matt Pike as a child, only they apparently chained him to a guitar, instead. He's like an anti-virtuoso. His music is more crude and brutal than sophisticated, but it gets the job done, which is to utterly slay you with undeniable, burning, blistering POWER. You probably need to have already earned your Bachelor's in Metal before attempting High on Fire. All others should make sure and put their hardhats on before the vocals kick in. Matt's on the wagon now, this is an amazing album, and I wish him the very best. But it's become apparent now that he drank to forget the Annunaki Reptoid Conspiracy. He's serious about this stuff, like Roddy Piper in They Live! The whole album is like him body slamming you over and over in some back alleyway, screaming "Put on the f-ing sunglasses!". I dunno though, he's made me curious enough to wanna go read David Icke and try to figure out what he's singing about. There's also stuff in there about the structure of space-time being a conspiracy in and of itself reminiscent of Philip K. Dick's revelation about the Black Iron Prison and how The Empire Never Ended. And the line "best hide your souls 'cause there's aliens mating" reminded me of the Subgenius teachings on how homosexual sex releases f-rays (don't worry homosexuals, the f-rays are a good thing). Regardless of whether he makes a convert of me or not, I've gotta say that Matt Pike is, hands-down, the most authentic dude in Metal today.

This album is fantastic. I’m not usually one to listen to the same album over and over day after day, but I just have to keep this in my ear holes as much as possible.

I’m 45 years old, liked early Metallic, Pantera, some others, but that’s about it for metal. I discovered HOF last night and just finished listening to the last three albums. This is the biggest music revelation I had in 15 years. I was listening with headphones and I was afraid a black hole was going to form between my ears. I listened on my full system at medium volume and worried the floor was going to start rippling and a portal to hell was going to open. HOF is Rush granted special Metal powers by Satan.

Every time I hear a new album by High on Fire I swear it's the best heavy album ever and this is no different. There are certain players who amaze me with all the noise they can make with on guitar such as Dimebag, but Matt Pike is right there!!! Please come to Grand Rapids!!!
