This show defies time - it never gets old. Music is "toe tapping". Especially like "The Colors of my Life" and "Follow the Band". A great Broadway triumph which I wish would come to the east in revival.
  • This show needs to be in REVIVAL!!!!

Growing up just outside of NYC, my grandma took me to see Broadway shows regularly. I saw literally 100's of the most amazing shows! But I must say that Barnum was one of my top 3 of all time! At 10 years old, I knew every word to the soundtrack! I just found it on iTunes and haven't heard it in 30 years and I still remember every word... Even The Museum song! Broadway needs to bring this back to the stage! I'd love to see Hugh Jackman as Barnum and Nicole Kidman as Charity Barnum!!! It is a beautiful story and an unforgettable soundtrack....Bravo!
  • Love it!

If you want top-notch singing from the lead this may not be to your taste but if you want a song put across with all the enthusiasm of a circus ring leader then take a listen to Barnum. Jim Dale, like Michael Crawford who did the English production, gets the job done. Many of the songs evoke that same get-up-and-march feeling that Robert Preston's/Music Man's "76 Trombones" can. This is a tough role to perform because many of the songs are sung while performing circus acts such as high-wire, balancing, and/or other acrobatics. My vinyl wore out years ago so I never realized that Charity was Glenn Close. Look for the video of Barnum sometime and see what an amazing production this is especially for the lead.

There is a sucker born every minute, and I'm one of them. This was one of my favorite albums back in high school (1980's). Jim Dale is most known now for his award-winning narration of the Harry Potter audio books. But you should hear him sing! Fabulous, fun, festive... I love love love this musical!
  • I. Love. It.

I just don't understand why people aren't giving this show five stars. The music is great. And for those saying that Jim Dale can't sing, you clearly are forgetting the millions of other singers people listen to that actually can't sing. Barnum is a performer's role, and Jim Dale can clearly perform and sing. The best songs are, in my opinion, "Thank God I'm Old," "I Like Your Style," "Bigger Isn't Better," "Out There," and "Join the Circus." Buy it.
  • a classic

A note to the previous reviewers, and anyone else who thinks Jim Dale is new to the vocal performance world, this musical opened on Broadway in 1980 and ran for two years. These are great songs, and he was fantastic in this role. Yeah, Glenn Close was pretty good too. ;o) I personally was very happy to see this available on iTunes - my vinyl wore out years ago.

Glenn Close is on the album (she's Chairy Barnum) and I believe this is her Broadway Musical debut.
