  • Ugly and weird meets artistic and meaningful, along with beautiful

Hard to review this album. It has ups and downs, but I love the downs just as much as the ups. Beethoven is an ugly song that has a hauntingly scary message. The ugliness is what makes the song worth listening to. I've Got A Lover is mostly just fun and catchy along with Do You Want To Break Up (my personal least favourite). You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart is where the beautiful comes in along with catchy. I love it!! Shame is weird meets beautiful. Savage is surprisingly happier than most of the songs on the album. I Need A Man is a catchy monstrosity. Put The Blame On Me sounds like disco 10 years later. Heaven hardly has any words, but is a beautiful and artistic instrumental that sends chills up my spine. Wide Eyed Girl is catchy, fun, artistic, and weird all at the same time. I Need You is hard to judge. It sounds like a joke. The remixes are fun too. I recommend this album to those who like art whether or not it's weird or sometimes harsh. This album is certainly cold and many will dislike it due to its coldness. Recommended singles: You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart, Shame, and Wide Eyed Girl

This is by far my favorite Eurythmics album. Yes, it wasn't as "successful" as their other albums, but that doesn't make it a bad album by any means. I love the continuity of the songs, the videos are fantastic, and there is not a bad song on the whole album. I was so happy to see a remastered version with bonus tracks too! You will not be disappointed with this album, one of their best!

Annie and Dave go back their electronic beginnings with this album. I love the fact they take chances on almost every track. The tracks "Beethoven and "I Need A Man" are the obvious track choices. However, go for these others "You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart", "Savage" and "I've Got A Lover" are wonderful tracks that deserve attention. For fun, there is "Wide Eyed Girl" and "Heaven". There are no real bad tracks. Enjoy.

  • Eurythmics' best....But....

I have loved Savage since it came out in the late eighties....there is not a bad track on the album. And if you get the chance to see the corresponding videos to each of the tracks, you will discover a visual theme of sorts running through a number of them....as if the tracks combined are telling a story. So, with that said, WHY (as of 09.15.09) does the reviewer for ITunes start off his review by referring to this album as "Revenge"? Yes I know, we are here to purchase the album, not the review...but c'mon guys!

Many artists have an overlooked and under-appreciated masterwork in their collection, and Savage is just that for the Eurythmics. I was a huge fan back in the 80's, and I was upset that this LP didn't get the attention that I thought it deserved. But looking back, I think it's kind of nice that there is this deep and un-hyped treasure waiting for your discovery. Savage is the closest the Eurythmics came to doing a concept album. While it's no Dark Side of the Moon, it's a remarkable return to form after Revenge. It details the emotional breakdown, restoration, and rebirth of a woman in a failing relationship (watch the companion videos for more details). But even if you don't care about the concept, it's still a rich, melodic euro-pop masterpiece that even 20 years later (!) does not sound dated to me at all. I want to add a special shout-out for the Remastered version available here with bonus tracks. Whether you are new to Savage or thinking about rediscovering it, the remastered version is worth every penny - put on your headphones and enjoy the ride.

You can't buy the last 2 songs here from the other version but on this one u can? I'm glad don't get me wrong but maybe iTunes if you didn't release that 'album only' carp perhaps people wouldn't illegally download so much stuff. Why should they pay $9.99 for something they might already have just for the 1 or 2 extra songs?

Annie Lenox has long since changed from the upbeat stylings of this album, but this album (and the soundtrack to 1984) are her best work, in my opinion. Her video (which I can't find anymore) for this album rocks.
