"Sleepless Nights" is an amazing album of country classics and Patty's voice is flawless on this album. "Crazy Arms", "Please Help Me, I'm Falling" and "There Goes My Everything" are definitely the standout tracks on this album. Great job Patty!

I love this cd! I am a old timer and still a red neck,I am forever looking for this kind of sound. Let's just hope she never sells out like most bluegrass and country singers have. This is one great album.

I rarely buy whole albums anymore, preferring to purchase just the songs I love from each artist. No question I was buying this one. Loveless brings it to her own with each famous title on the Sleepless Nights album! I loved them all by the earlier performers, and I love them in the style of Loveless. She sings them as they are, classic country. And she brings them to life for a new generation of country listeners - not as an alternative to Underwood and Swift - because they are great performers, too, but as an addition to their CW libraries.

This is an album for all generations...Those who remember the songs, those who love Patty and Country classics, and the explorers wanting to get it from a master. Like a painter with color on canvas, Patty mixes words and nuances, phrasing and emotion, for this classic interpretation of standard country soul, as she bills it. I am so excited to be going to see her in NY at the Lincoln Center for a night of song. I think the wonder of this recording cannot be underestimated...if you buy a song or two , I recommend There stands the glass,("fill it up to the brim, til my troubles go dim"), or Crazy Arms, which seems to be getting some radio attention. I don't listen to Country Music overall much...but you can't deny talent and originality...Patty Loveless is just that...I Love her. ("fill it up to the brim, til my troubles go dim.")

Down to earth country music will never die,it just takes special people to sing it.Patty sings from her heart with the good ole Southern Country in her veins. We need more of this to bring back the true country that use to be. Fantastic video as a plus. Thanks Apple.
  • Patty Loveless unleashes on the classics

As terrific as this project looks on paper, the results aren’t as satisfying as the elements might suggest. Loveless is in good voice, the songs are classics, and the arrangements suitably stripped of modern Nashville conventions, but the results are lacking in dynamic range and one-dimensional. Loveless has the tone and twang to effortlessly cast herself back (unlike, for example, Martina McBride on 2005’s Timeless), the problem is that she also has an incredibly powerful voice that’s unleashed in full-throat on every track. The Linda Ronstadt-styled emoting is impressive, even stop-you-in-your-tracks chilling, for a track or two, but the lack of any softness is wearying at album length. Emory Gordy Jr.’s production and arrangements provide typically sympathetic settings for his wife, and Loveless obviously respects and deeply understands her material, but compacting fourteen emotionally-charged singles onto one album leaves the listener feeling battered. Perhaps it was Loveless’ artistic goal to hammer home the sorrow of these songs, but it would make a better listening experience as a series of singles stretched out over a year or two. 3-1/2 stars, if allowed fractional ratings. While the songs are good, each song sounds exactly like the one before it. If you are having a sleepless night, this will put you to sleep.

Well, as if you needed another reason to love Patty Loveless, here's one. It was about time someone put the country back into country music.

This woman is up there in chanteuse heaven with Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dagmar Krause...she is so far beyond the country mainstream she owns it. Everything she has done since leaving pop country is immortal. The world will catch up someday.
