What a nice surprise. I heard Mark on XM and sampled this forgotten gem. What a good set of songs this is.

There is not a bit of fluff on this velvety dream of a record. The songs are gorgeous, funny and romantic... and there is plenty of the graceful fretwork fire as well...much of Knopfler's guitar playing on this record rivals his best work in Dire Straits...the songwriting is even better..."Golden Heart" is my personal favorite of all of the records that Mr. Knopfler's done as a solo artist.
  • Worth it for "A NIght In Summer Long Ago" alone.

Anyone who enjoyed Dire Straits more thoughtful side will appreciated this album. "A NIght In Summer Long Ago" is one of the most achingly beautiful pieces of celtic folk ever.

As a big Knopfler fan that has all his solo albums, let me recommend this album as his most excellent work. Although the rest are very close behind, Golden Heart has virtually all his musical stlyes ( rock, country, celtic, blues, etc. ) in one. As a bonus for you DS fans, Golden Heart sounds most like the band's later work. Most exceptional! Also check out his live video, Night in London which includes many of the Golden Heart titles.
  • Best Solo Knopfler Album Hands Down

I've been a fan of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits since the beginning. I've even been to a Dire Straits concert. I've got all Dire Straits Albums, all MK Screenplay albums and I've heard all MK 'solo' albums and I will say from top to bottom this if by far the BEST MK album put out. What I have noticed with this album is it was done shortly after the "On Every Street" album with Dire Straits so many of the songs have that Dire Straits sound. Much of his solo stuff later on takes on a different sound so if you are a die hard Dire Straits fan and do not care for MK's solo stuff, well THIS ALBUM IS THE ONE YOU NEED TO GET. The WHOLE thing is worth it! I read reviews from his effort with Emmy Lou Harris and the reviews said that was the one to get, I bought the whole album and it STINKS in comparison to Golden Heart. Believe me, I am a HUGE Knopfler fan and if you buy any SOLO album in it's entirety BUY THIS ONE!

In my opinion, his best solo work. Worth every penny.
