  • Amazing Archetypal Jazz-Rock Fusion, RIP

I can’t give this band enough credit and am completely saddened that such talent passed away in a plane crash in the 1970s. However, I’m glad that the tracks finally made their way to remastering by Sony and Apple, as all I had before was a rare (but scratched up) vinyl LP of the album. Like some other folks on here, I also helped cover (as second trumpet) “Get It On” in 1997 whilst in high school jazz band. Of course, we were horrible compared to the original. Best tracks on this album? “Get It On” is the single and classic of course (to the point that high schoolers cover it as part of band practice!)… I also recommend the thrilling instrumental “Open Up Wide”. For those who prefer something softer, “Boys and Girls Together” is a nice jazz-rock power ballad-type deal. Overall, great album and worth the price, even if it’s not on vinyl.

In 1972 Bill Chase and his band played at Widefield High School in Colorado Springs. I heard Get It on from radio air play and feel in love. Of all the bands I have seen since not a one can compare except possibly Chicago. It is a shame that there is'nt more Chase to be heard! Music this good is not made anymore.

8/9/74: I was 22. Nixon resignd in the morning. My brother, myself and a friend leave Chicago at noon going to Colorado via the Black Hills on I-90. Somewhere past Blue Earth, MN we ran out of gas due to faulty gas guage. Van of long hairs of the era, like us, picks us up hitching to a gas station and tells us they are going to the county fair to see Chase. They take us to get gas and then back to our car. Ask us if we want to go with them to the show, not being that familiar with the band, at the time, we decline. We continue driving an hour or so till we go through THE WORST THUNDER STORMS I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE....forcing us to abandon our plans of driving straight through and stop in a motel...horrible, loud thunderstorms all night. Next morning on the car radio we hear about the crash. Later discovered just how amazing they were. Bill Chase is one of the best trumpet players to ever live. That night still haunts me

We were so robbed by Bill being tragically removed from the earth so young - such a gift from God. If you love screamers that are also legit, then you will love Chase. Continue his legacy!!!
  • Great All-Time Power Horn Albums

Chase features 4 trumpets led by the high-range of Bill Chase. This 70's rock/jazz fusion is a horn player's dream. Just blow and go, baby. Rock on! If you're not familiar with Chase, you've probably heard "Get it On" m but my favorites are "Handbags and Gladrags" and "Open up Wide" which begins with a great solo using lots of reverberation. Just love this album.

I first saw CHASE on the Tonight show mid-spring 1971 and was immediately blown away. Even my wife, who wasn't a big fan of brass, fell under their spell...we absolutely played the first album to death. That same Fall of 1971 I was transferred to Japan to begin a 3 year tour in the Army. Two months after I was there, who is headlining the Nippon Budokan??? Bill Chase and company. Well, I begged the Army Special Services office to sponsor a trip for the GI's, but they couldn't get enough people interested, but the nice lady at the desk handed me an envelope and there was a pair of third row seats. The day of the show I was beside myself and couldn't get into Tokyo fast enough...I got to the Budokan and started wandering around...I ran into some long haired Americans and started talking with them and it turns out they were the drummer, new lead singer (J.J. Shinn, I believe) and one of the new trumpet players. Well, these guys took me under their wing and introduced me to the band, took me to the sound check and generally made me feel like a prince...I watched the show that night from the side of the stage and was amazed that a normally staid Japanese audience was up and dancing and cheering like maniacs for CHASE...At the end of the night all of the guys signed my tickets and gave me a signed copy of their first album...One of the big thrills of my life. They didn't have to do what they did...and I have held on to those tickets and memories to this day. On the day they died, I cried..for the loss of musical genius, but also for their families, their friends and for a young GI. Congratulations iTunes for finally bringing CHASE to the Store...

It took Apple forever to get Bill Chase on iTunes. He is clearly one of the greatest horn players of all time. It is ashamed we only have a select few samples of his work. Chase is the best of his work available today.

Amazing!!!!!! I've been looking for years, yes, years for this album to no avail until now! You can not get music like this anymore much less for 6.99 the entire album!!!!!! Itunes is great! This album made me cry today as I remembered old days when I was a young 1st Alto Sax in my band and my old friends, some of them gone now. We would all sit and listen to the awesome and incredible sound of this band. I will definetely enjoy it again and again and again..................Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about all three together? This album is way cool. Back in the '70's I played this album (and that's what they were in those days - vinyl albums) until it wore it out and I had to buy a replacement. Warning: it begs to be played loud. Loud, like The Stones loud. These guys are right up there, okay pretty close to, BS&T and Chicago, and it doesn't get much better than that. Rock/Jazz played on red hot flaming brass. Now how cool is THAT?
  • A Truly Unique Sound in their Time...

How awesome is this? Chase and Chicago set the standard for the "Brass and Brash" sound of their time… I have been typing Chase in the iTune search box off and on over the years, and was so happy when I got this hit… Folks of my generation know this sound immediately, I hope a new generation is going to love it as much as I do! "Handbags and Gladrags" transported me back instantly in time…
