Not only does this album contain the group's first breakout hit, "Make It With You," my other favorites include "Look What You've Done," "I Am That I Am," "Been Too Long On the Road," "Coming Apart," and "Call on Me." There's not a bad song on this LP, and it was made before the band became a commercial hit. There's a lot of their original artistry on this one, with a little more studio polish than their first album. For me? It's just right. Still love it after all these years.

Bread's second album "On The Waters" released in 1970 included their smash hit "Make It With You" and was the song that gave the band the break they needed. Bread will always be considered the kings of melodic soft pop rock and this album, their best IMO contains so many great songs it certainly brings back alot of memories for me. If there's one song that I felt stood out over the others it has to be "Been Too Long On The Road" an absolute masterpiece. The album is chuck full of slower soft rockers as well as some uptempo tunes as well. "On The Waters" is available again on cd thanks to Wounded Birds Records picking it up as well as the two other superb albums "Bread" and "Manna". The David Gates catalog is also available on cd too.

Upon revisiting the tune here, "The Other Side Of Life" is simply one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.

I still remember hearing these guys on the radio for the first time when I was 15. It was like hearing the Beatles for the first time when I was 8. You stop what you're doing and say whoa, what is that? We sometimes take this music for granted now, and forget that nothing like them existed at the time. Check out "Been Too Long On the Road," a moving piece of introspective songwriting, amazing arrangement. David Gates is simply the best, no one compares. I am so glad to have rediscovered this music thanks to iTunes. The old Bread LP's vanished along with an old girlfriend long ago. (At least she had good taste in music).

I guess I thought it would sound as good to me as it did in the seventies, but it was just okay.

Ohhhh, I've loved almost every single song that Bread has ever done. I can't believe my good fortune in finding their songs on iTunes. I have to pace myself, can't buy them all at once. [grin] Thank you, thank you, iTunes !!!

What an album! Bread gets inside your head and weaves its magic. Thank goodness for Ipod! It is so wonderful to be able to hear these songs again. You can't buy all of these on CDs anymore, and my Bread albums are in such sad shape. Bread lives again!
