When I first stumbled across this band I knew I found something special. The first song I heard by them was from this album it's 'A kiss to Remember'. Thats where you should start. If you do not like that song you will not like them.

Normally, I do not take the time to review anything, but I felt I had to with this album. I am surprised there are not many reviews for this album, as it is nothing short of a masterpiece. My Dying Bride's Like Gods of the Sun is heavy for any metal lover yet it is tempered by the use of strings and very little choral music ( except For My Fallen Angel, but it is appropiate). What thing I can say about MDB, is that they know how and when to add symphony; in this genre, the music can be easily drowned by too much symphony and not enough metal. The vocals are 'clean' as frontman Aaron mourns of lost love, hopelessness, and romanticized darkness. For a listener unused to doom metal, the album can be a little overbearing as they are taken on a journey that explores the darker sides of emotion where in this genre, it is used as an art form. In the end, however, it's up to you to decide if it's your cup of tea. (Why did Itunes put MBD in the rock section is beyond me).

I am sure im am not the only one who thinks this, but MDB is one of those bands who are incapable of making a bad album, every album they have done is special in its own way. One of the great things about them is that they have evolved, but they have also kept to their roots, (somthing bands never really have done). I have to give this album a very honerable mention, this was when they still had violins. This is probibly one of the most depressing albums you will ever hear from any metal band , it will definatly leave you gasping for air, the noticable twin gutiar harmonies, haunting keybords, everything any doom/goth metal fan needs. Arron's(the singer) voice is ungodly, he sounds really in pain here and its very convincing, which is what makes him such a brilliant singer. All in all just buy this album, if you are just getting into them this is a good one to start with. But really any album of theirs is just as brilliant, but I personalily like this one the most.
