What happens when a bunch of guys from the University of North Texas get together and start funkin’ it out on the corner of Mingo and Fishtrap streets (true story…)? Well, you get what has got to be one of the jammin’-ist bands in recent memory. Anyone who has seen these guys live can attest to the power of Mingo’s blend of silky soul and hardcore funk. A jammin’ band with a funky-tight horn section to match… If this doesn’t make you get up and dance, then you need to get yourself checked because you are suffering from a funk deficiency!

Mingo Fishtrap is an awesome band! Their singer is amazing and the instrumental players are also fantasic. I am lucky enough to know the tenor/alto saxophonist (Dan) personally and he is incredibly talented. Mingo is GREAT live but their album is the next best thing! Help support this band because they are awesome guys with even better music. PS-My favorite track is Dirty Gritty!

This Austin-based group is the tightest live funk act I've heard since Tower of Power. This studio release captures all the energy of their live perfomances with a more polished sound than their first full-length release From the Private Bag, also worth every penny. They manage to blend an authentic old-school funk sound with a modern savvy that makes the music accessible to anyone with a pulse, and the songwriting is at times satisfyingly deep and at others lightheartedly simple. Not a weak track on this album, but check out the heavily TOP-influenced Catch the Bus and the rap track Off the Shed.
  • This is an awesome jam band.

A lot of excellent tracks: One warning, though. If you're able to get the CD, do. It has an excellent track not available here.

One of the few acts that capture the raw engergy of a live performance in the studio. Buy these tracks - then start moving your feet!

Especially "Catch the Bus," but all the cuts are good. First-class musicians, having fun - I saw them live once and really enjoyed the show.

This is one of the best groups I have heard in a long time. I had the pleasure of seeing them on a cruise earlier this year. They put on a fantastic show. If I am in a down mood I pop this in the cd player and I get cheered up real fast. If you like Tower of Power you will love Mingo Fishtrap.
