I have been following Merchant's music for years. I was a faithful 10,000 Maniacs listener. I saw her perfom many times as a solo artist as well. She has such raw talent and it really is music for your soul. It brings back memories of childhood, it is truly authentic. Go Down Moses! My favorite.

Tigerlily taught me to sit still, Ophelia taught me to move, and this has taught me to listen. Thank You.

Without doubt the best album NM has produced since Tigerlily. I can see how this new album is going to become part of the soundtrack to our lives the way Tigerlily has been these past 20 years.
  • What I would expect from Natalie

This is a great collection of songs. Natalie reminds me of Tracy Chapman- great voice, songwriting, no concern over their looks or being on the top 10. Their concern is to give you powerful, meaningful music. This is what I would expect from such a talented artist. Like Chapman, Merchant is a very private person. I like that. It's all about the music. I only gave it 4 stars because 5 stars would only go towards her work on Tigerlily and Ophelia- her masterpieces. After all these years the fact that we can give her 4 stars is an accomplishment that she is staying true to her art. She is incredibly talented.
  • Glad she is Back!!

Real music with real lyrics and a voice (not digitally enhanced) to carry it all.
  • Way overdue, well worth the wait!

This is my definitive summer album for 2014. Natalie has brought back the art of creating an album, not just a bunch of songs thrown together. To get the full impact, you need to listen to this album from start to finish, in order. "Ladybird" is everything I love about Natalie's music; story telling, melody that wraps around the lyrics, and arrangements that pull you into the song and gently hold you there. "Go Down Moses" makes me want to move every time I hear it, with its infectious rhythm, rich vocals, and a fantastic wall of sound. Natalie has, smartly, applied her wisdom and maturity to a brilliant body of work. I only pray that she produces more music soon and more frequently.

Had the good fortune to seeing her fronting the 10000 Maniacs many years ago. I've been hooked ever since. She has always been enchanting, hypnotic, intellegent, poetic, soothing, captivating in other words a unique artist in the best sense of the word. Good work Natalie!!!
