  • Bastardization...

This is my oppinion as a lifelong fan of the Cirque Du Soliel shows. And if you enjoy this version of the album, then good for you, I’m sorry I am not able to. This album made my mother cry, it made my cousin cry, and it made me cry. The greatest Cirque Du Soliel album has been ruined and turned into a modern pop mess. I get that they wanted to remake the music for a new audience, but this was not the show to do it to. It is a major disrespect to the original, and should honestly not exist. If it were on it’s own? It feels like it tries too hard for a lot of songs, the first song being good. The heavy syth is a great touch, but ruined by that generic modern pop beat.

I havent seen the new show yet, but Alegria has been a favourite of mine for many, many years. I bought the new album expecting to hate the changes to my beloved music, and while I miss Francesca Gagnon’s powerfully emotional voice, I find the new album to be spectacular. I cant stop listening. It’s MUCH darker, much broodier, but the themes carry through in new and wonderful ways. Dont skip ahead; listen in order.... and Valsajoia will blow you flat. Im in love; I had worried my beloved Alegria was going to be twisted and suffer through a torturous rewrite, and yet i should never have been in doubt that Alegria would rise with an even stronger scream of triumph. To the Powers that Be at Cirque; thank you. THANK YOU. (Quidam’s next, right? ;)
