  • A great and overlooked album!

I have been experiencing a "Ronson Renaissance" of late. Ian Hunter, Bowie, Lou Reed, et.al., and have forgotten how much I enjoyed this album when it first came out in 1975. Hunter really belts it out and Mick Ronson really scorches that guitar! For the life of me, I’ll never figure out why I haven’t played more Ian Hunter over the years. This stuff was made for cranking, at high volume, in the car on the road! Road trip, anyone?
  • Amazing Ian Hunter!

I've had this self-titled album since the '70s and often think about how great it is; saw Ian LIVE at the Coach House (San Juan Capistrano) Sun, 1-11-2015, and realized how ridiculous it was that I don't have it digitally, so now I do! IH rocks more than ever, even at 75! God Bless him! I want to see him next year!

Was fortunate enough to see Mott a few times and Ian with Mick Ronson more than a few. Was also fortunate enough to have met Ian twice way back in the day. A genuinely nice man who went out of his way for a couple of star struck kids... Love most everything the man has done but this album is special. The late Mick Ronson's guitar work is brilliant! Tone, tone and tone... One of Rocks most underrated guitarists. His playing defines the phrase "less is more"... BTW, Ian is still releasing great music. Check out his latest "When I'm President". Why in the world has he yet to be inducted into the R&R hall of fame???

With all apologies to Ian! Get his latest ( When I'm President) where, at 72 yrs old, he rocks like a mother f----. As great as President is (and Rant, All-American, etc, etc), this album - THIS ONE - is one of the great rock albums of all time.

Why is it when I turn it to the classic rock station I get garbage like Steve Miller Band, Billy Squier, Eric Clapton, etc., and not this slice of fried gold?
  • Soooo Lucky

I was soooo lucky... in the mid-70's I happened to hear about an upcoming show at a club near my college in N.J.(Rutgers) with a guy I'd never heard of, named Ian Hunter. Took a chance and his show totally blew me away...Once Bitten, Twice Shy...All the Way to Memphis... Central Park & West... and finished off with All the Young Dudes. Just a great show (about 1 1/2 hrs. long) I remember some jerk stole his shades during encore. Just one of the best rock shows ever and I've been aa fan ever since...
  • Get This Album. Just Get It.

If you even liked Mott The Hoople only a little, this album is essential. "Boy" is the best song he ever wrote, and Shades Off is a masterpiece. Sure, there's the hit single opening track, but this LP is so much more and bears repeated listening for years to come. Truly a career peak, although Hunter had many. And working with Mick Ronson just makes it all that much better.
  • A Must Own From A Real Rocker

For some reason, many people don't know who Ian Hunter is or never heard of Mott the Hoople. 34 years later this album still has it. Not just the classic Once Bitten, but songs like Lounge Lizard, Who Do You Love and The Truth really rock and It Ain't easy and Boy are excellent power ballads. Mick Ronson smokes on these tracks. MUST BUY
