  • A True Poet

I can't add anything here as it has been said in the other comments. I bought The Revolution Will Not Be Televised years ago. I then went out and bought just about everything on disc I could get. The man lays his soul on the line warts and all. The Other Side I, II & III real and raw. B Movies could be written today except Ronnie Ray Gun is gone. Another white guy who GSH's music speaks to. Did You Hear What They Said check it. Too many to list.

As a young man growing up in the Balto- DC area in the early 70's music was everywhere. A friend of mine played "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" for me. I was drawn to the message, the music. But it was that voice. I have to honestly say that he has influenced me politically, socially and spritually. He is not and has never been a musical fraud. Never was about money or fame. It was definitely about a MESSAGE! Uplifting, comfortting, informative, brutally honest. He and Brian Wiliams told us about Ray-Gun" and what he was about. I listen to a lot of music and I admire all of the greats of Jazz, Soul, R&B but no artist has ever or will ever move me the way that Gil Scott-Heron has. I have been fortunate enough to see him perform live. Totatlly amazing in concert. I was saw him last at the Kilimanjaro in DC in the late 90's that night was one of the best performances that I have ever seen. Unfortunately Gil has had some set backs. I support him whenever I can by purchasing everything he has recorded. He says that he would like to work with Quincy Jones some day. Let's hope that he gets the chance. I promise you that if they did ................ It would be special. I LOVE YOU GIL.

Listened to Mr. Scott-Heron in concert in the early 80's and again in 2009 - both concerts simply stunning, electrifying. The first, however, played to a much larger audience, which is difficult to believe, considering that both the stories and the music are still way ahead of the times. Let's not be satisfied with sharing "the great secret" here. Spread the word.

I cant improve on the previous reviewer's comments, but he was WAY ahead of his time! The Revolution Will Not Be Televised brings me back to high school, fond memories of greats like Hubert Laws, Bernard Purdie, etc. playing behind the man that started "rap"! Nobody today is in his class as far as writing his own music and his lyrics ( talk about social awareness!) This coming from a "good ole white boy"!

He is way before my time but you can only be drawn to not only the music but to the deep and vibrant lyrics. He is a musical genius. It is a shame that he will never be categorized as such. A great great body of work. Could listen to him all day and never be bored.
