Solid Collection

Leave it to the Airplane to take something as innocuous as a greatest hits album and turn it into another way to “stick it to the man”, in this case RCA Records. Title aside, this is as solid a collection of the Airplane as you'll find and the timing of its release couldn't be better since the band was already falling part as core members departed and they soon became a different band altogether. With the exception of “White Rabbit” and “Somebody to Love”, the Airplane never saw themselves as a singles band. So the really great songs that were often a better representation of the Airplane were found on their albums. With the popularity of Expanded and “Deluxe Edition” CD's I would've liked it if space could be found for songs like “Turn My Life Down”, “Uncle Sam Blues” or “Third Week in the Chelsea”.
