  • The Fifth Time's The Charm

SEND IT was Ashford & Simpson's fifth album as well as the duo's first of four gold albums. Although the previous four albums were very good, this work is where Nick and Valerie's sophisticated soul really jells. Nick's vocals improved by leaps and bounds, while the duo's interplay was tighter than one of Tina Turner's dresses. Top-notch songwriting is on display from the funky "Don't Cost You Nothing" to the beautiful title tune. Other highlights include the jazzy "Too Bad", the lush instrumental "Bourgie Bourgie", and the cleverly sexy make-up song "Top Of The Stairs". This album, along with 1978's sexy "Is It Still Good To Ya", is prime A&S.
