The Quality Continues

After taking 1975 off to welcome their first child into the world, Ashford and Simpson came back on the scene with COME AS YOU ARE, their third Warner Brothers album. The first single, "It'll Come, "It'll Come, It'll Come'" crawled to #96 on the Billboard r&b charts. The lovely ballad "Somebody Told A Lie" fared a little better at #58, while "One More Try" received some disco play (the twelve-inch promo version of this song fetches a couple of thousand bucks in the rare vinyl market).
Other highlights on this album besides the aforementioned songs include the heartfelt ballad "Believe In Me" (later covered by Cheryl Lynn on a recording produced by the late great Luther Vandross), the gospel rave-up "Tell It All", and the peppy album closer "It Came To Me". "Sell The House" and "Caretaker" are strictly throwaway tracks with weak lyrics and a loud and intrusive string section.
