  • Mason at his best...

This music sounds simple, but it's rare and beautiful music. Mason makes music that he loves and it shows in his music. Mason really lives the "Simple Life". When most artists create big, studio produced albums, Mason puts together an album that would likely underwhelm today's top 40 crowd. Yet, Mason sticks with what he knows best, and sings his heart out. This album is like drinking coffee in the morning on a cold day, it really warms you up and makes you feel good inside.

This album is beautiful in its simplicity. I am so glad to see Mason return to his acoustic sound after Blood of Man. Well done Mason.

Mason Jennings is a legitimate American songwriter. This particular collection isn't necessarily descriptive of his stout body of work, but its good tunes. Gems are "Dakota," "The Flood," and "the Magician." "Better Than That" is good to hear cleaned-up. The rest of the songs sort of breeze by pleasantly. I'm always amazed when a dude's outtakes are better than most dudes' full-out albums.
  • The Flood is a great, easy listen, with lovely depth

I would urge you to check out Mason Jennings' album, The Flood. Most spectacularly, it includes a song titled Between the Lines, which I am happy to say has swept me rather off of my feet. Its been quite some time since I've stumbled on an honest, unassuming love song, and let me tell you, this one has a big, kind heart, with a sweet-home sound. Somewhat reminiscent of older Ben Kweller, but with a bit more depth, its bound to go down in my personal hall of simple love song fame. Kudos, Mason Jennings.

so happy to finally have some of these old songs recorded properly. there's some filler but mostly well written folk songs, track after track.

Bummer, Mason has been my favorite artist for the past year. However, with his new album I felt like the creativity was lacking. Sadly there were familiar riffs and cheesy rhymes (not the inspiering artist I've grown to love). I'll forever be a fan, just not of this album.

I am a longtime mason follower...since the 400 Bar days. I love all Mason albums for different reasons. However; this is what I have been waiting for. This is the sort music that made me fall in love with Mason's music and storytelling way back when. THANK YOU MASON for making this album.

  • Wish I Knew You When You Were Young

I'm a long time Mason fan, so for me this album is like time travel. What was young Mason the song writer like? On this album we find out. What we find is a guy penning and strumming spare lines and melodies - not trying to be anything but what he is. If you're brand new to Mason, hang in there and you will be treated to a major discovery. Johnny Cash was planning to record a Mason song (Adrian...not on this album) at the time he died. You begin to find out why on this album. And when you move on to Mason's other albums, it becomes clear: Mason's a true artist, like Johnny, Woody Guthrie and other of the best American song writers. There's a reason Todd Haynes picked Mason to sing "The Times They are a Changin'" and "The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll" in the movie about Dylan, "I'm Not There." He's doing his own thing and he's not like anyone else.

The Flood - song and album are both just incredible. This record represents Mason's "other" approach to song writing... Bare bones, simple, and exposed. This is a beautifully intimate record.
