His Best?

Nick Lowe started out doing pub rock and country with Brinsley Schwarz, then moved on to work as a superstar producer & co-leader of Rockpile with Dave Edmunds.
But for a 2-album period he was one of the shining examples of just how to write and perform pure power pop. Whether this album or "Jesus of Cool/Pure Pop For
Now People" is his best is simply a matter of opinion -you can't go wrong with either. And he was briefly Johnny Cash's son-in-law then too. On top of the world?
Maybe...just buy everything he ever recorded and sort it out for yourself.
One of the all time best

I never saw anything "new wave" about this album when it came out in '79, except for Nick Lowe's reputation for his inspired association with Elvis Costello. New Wave was just a label to place on a creative force that had no home in radio's mainstream categories. If you were looking for a bridge between the arena rock of the '70s & the pure roots rock that fueled bands like the Blasters, Los Lobos & similar talents, this album was it. Lowe's deft touch with lyrics & melodies belie a nervy urgency that runs throughout he album. Yet Lowe & band (Rockpile) deliver that sound in pure pop form. An amazing acheivement.
What a great ride back to '79

Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Rockpile. This is the soul of the new wave explosion. So great to hear these great tunes again. Go ahead, give it a spin.
