This is not quite as stellar as "At My Age" but it's still a great collection of finely executed tunes from a musical legend. This will grow on you like a well-worn pair of blue jeans. Very comfortable and stylish!!

If you like Nick Lowe, you'll love this album. Beautifully crooned, beautifully written. The only complaint that I have is that it is less than 36 minutes long. Every time it ends, I am caught by surprise and wishing for more.
  • Delectably boring

I have no qualms about listening to old Nick. I heard a spectacular unplugged performance on NPR, which gave me faith whatever he came up with in '11 would hit the spot. We hear a little Welsh jangle but mostly the hard hitting performances a la Rick Rubin

.."I've Got Wander Dust All In My Shoes!"..Sounds here like Nick ("Basher") Lowe has taken a Page (Or two) from Bob Dylan's most recent Recordings and "Traveled Back In Time" to the Bing Crosby/Mel Torme/Nat "King" Cole Era of Smooth Ballad Singing!-I'm hearing a lot of Country/Jazz/Swing Influences on "The Old Magic"; Both Rhythmically & Lyrically; And to quote from Mr. Dylan: "It's All Good!"-If you were expecting a grand return to some Pub-Rock; Cheeky-Punk or (A term we always Hated; "New Wave"); Then I advise you all to Look Elsewhere!-Still having some "Restless Feelings"; Nick Lowe; At 61; Would sing: "You Don't Know Me At All!"-Suggestion: Listen very carefully to Nick Lowe's Latest & Let his "Magic" Work It's Wonders On You!...by Grimmbo.

I love this and At My Age. Never a big Nick Lowe singer (though I loved the work with Elvis C. and John Hiatt/Little Village) fan in the 80s, I am won over by the rueful crooner vibe on Lowe's recent albums.

Nick Lowe continues to age like a piece of cheese. Cheese that writes timeless songs and sings them perfectly.
