Have to say that this is the most touching album that I have experienced from Patti Smith. Particularly the piece "After the Goldrush" with her CHILDREN playing the piano and guitar "live' without the benefit of a practice. Patti is very organic and a child of the earth. Read her book that won the "National Book Award" and you will benefit from her experiences. We are all honored by her experiences and those she has passed to her children...Please support her - she is a godsend to our generation.

Patti Smith and her music have aged with grace and beauty. This is not the screaming punk of old but then neither am I. This is the BEST album purchase/download of 2012 so far!

I went into this new Patti Smith album with high expectations, and was not disappointed. Her cover of "After the Gold Rush" is massively dissapointing but all of her original material is wonderful. Can't wait to see her open for Neil Young!
  • The Worst Sin of All

Having traded in her ferocity to become a hippie earth mother goddess who sees it as her job to nurture and enlighten us, Patti's committed the worst aesthetic sin of all: She's boring from start to finish -- although sometimes unintentionally hilarious as in her somber ode to Amy Winehouse. (Seriously, Patti, Amy as Jesus with her blood turning to wine?) Her every trope is recycled here to no effect, her lyrics here rarely rise above doggerel and her melodies are nonexistent. Which would be fine if she were still playing punk rock, but she's not. How the mighty have fallen.

A beautiful masterwork. Patti's voice and passion are in full gear and she again shows she is the spirutal poet of our time. Magnificent.

I've always been enthralled with Patti Smith, especially with her contributions to the punk movement, her literature and of course co-writing "Because The Night" with my favorite artist ever Bruce Springsteen. Considering Patti Smith's stage in her career and 8 years from her last release, I had my doubts with how this album would turn out. Safe to say my thoughts were quelled. "Banga" is a quality album with consciously constructed songs and poetic lyrics. 2012 has been a great year for music but "Banga" might just be my favorite one so far. Buy it. It's well worth it.

Haunting, powerful, beautiful. Different for Patti, but maybe a new masterpiece

Patti is one of my favorite artists ever since I got to know her (1978). So I did not care to listen to previews but bought the album right away. And I was right to do so: really good, mature tracks, Patti's wonderful voice and mostly good listening. Tracks 2 and 3 are good starters.
