Although most remember Lindsey's hay days as a rocking out guitarist but this is a stripped down channeled body of work. His most intimate to date and although it's not my favorite, I LOVE IT. It's just another example of how diverse he is. He does a few covers here that although I've not heard the originals, I love their representations here. In fact, had I not have looked, I would have though that were his. First solo album since 1992, came as a surprise but it'snot weak in any way. You can really hear his guitar work here. title track, 'Down On Rodeo', & 'Try For The Sun' are my favorite tracks.
Who cares about his name

i've been very reluctant to write a review for this album. PLEASE listen to it, and pardon the cliche, "without prejeduce".... Don't judge the work on former Fleetwood Mac, or even Lindsey's own solo material. This is a listening pleasure all on it's own, filled with layer's of sound, that many will not appreciate. I can't imagine the technolgy that went into making these recording's, it just blows my mind.. but it's a masterful work of art that can't be dismissed. Unique walls of sound, layer upon layer of brillance, I really think think this IS the CD for the time capsule. When people discover music on Earth as it's finest, this is as good as we are. It's sheer brillance, and I adore the songs on this recording.

Buckingham's vision has helped Fleetwood Mac reached high heights. His own solo material is much more offbeat and unusual than some of what he hear by the band.
I've been increasingly into his solo material, liking him even better each release since the early 1990s. The acoustic nature of this draws me in most of all his cds. It can be gentle, haunting, even thoughtful. Tracks to listen to: "To Try For the Sun", "Down on Rodeo", "Cast Away Dreams", "I Am Waiting".

It's pretty good, but not his best effort.
His best work hands down would be 1992's "Out Of the Cradle".
At that time, he was young enough to put out a strong effort, but mature enough not to go too far (Listen to the sound clips and you'll see what I mean).
Not that this is a *bad* album; just not his best.

First of all I love Lindsey Buckingham. I think "Out of the Cradle" was one of the finest (and badly underrated) albums of the past 20 years. "Under the Skin" has honestly left me hanging a bit. To be critical of Lindsey, he screamed through some of his most recent live material. The 'Bark, Bark' sequence on Holiday Road off the recent live album is case in point. Granted, his lusty, over-the-top style has endeared us to him over the years. Still, the incoherent musings of a genius usually isn't their finest work. In my opinion, you get a touch of this on Under the Skin.
On a positive note, Down on Rodeo may be the finest song he has ever written, or at least makes my short list. This album isn't 'Tusk', not even close, but it's not bad.

Lindsay...the great performer and unbelievable talent, but where's the song? It just sounds like he took an ideal for a song and ran with it without thought. None of the songs seems to grab me at all.
