I have mixed feelings for Nude just because some of the tracks are good, but others are just unbearable to listen to. With titles like, "Get Out Of My House", "I Cannot Carry On", and "My Forbidden Lover" its no wonder Dead or Alive was labeled a 1980s one hit wonder after "You Spin Me Round(Like a Record)". Mad, Bad, and Dangerous to Know was a good sequel to Youthquake, but Nude didn't do justice as a sequel for Mad, Bad, and Dangerous to Know, obviosouly the strongest track on the album is "Come Home(With Me Baby)" and clearly the best track on it. "Turn Around And Count 2 Ten" was the next single off this album and while the name sounds inviting, not really, its an OK song. There is really nothing to see here with Nude other than forgettable tracks and lyrics; Nude is clearly the weakest of all DOA albums.

If there can be such a thing said about DOA, on Nude, the band comes of age. Shaking off the SAW production which, by the late 80s, was becoming repetitious and uninspired, the band produced the tracks on the album itself. The SAW influence remains heavy on this album, though, particularly on the track "Get Out Of My House." DOA never has received the success in North America that they deserved, garnering only two Top-20 hits. In Asia, however, the band was (and is) huge. The lead single from this album, "Turn Around And Count 2 Ten" spent an enormous 17 weeks atop the Japanese music charts, although "Come Home With Me Baby" made a respectable showing on the U.S. Pop and Dance charts. After the nearly perfect "Mad, Bad, and Dangerous To Know," I had high expectations for this one, and I must admit to some disappointment. Over time, however, this one has endured and remains in regular rotation in my personal collection.

First of all, Youthquake was NOT their debut album! On that note, does this album measure up to Youthquake? Not quite, but this is a welcome edition for fans of 80's dance music (You Spin Me Like A Record is their stable song; they have remixed it many times and they will never top it). Be sure to check out "Stop Kinging My Heart Around, My Forbidden Lover and Turn Around...". They will make you move just like "You Spin Me..."!
  • Buy "Youthquake" instead

Nude is not a great album. Couple of good songs. Youthquake was Dead or Alive's debut album and it keeps the energy of "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" through the whole album.
