Maynard and his band are amazing! One of my all-time best jazz albums. Maynard and his band make it seem easy. WOW!

Maynard was much much more than a great musician and fabulous trumpet virtuoso. He was a beacon of light; an inspiration to every musician in my generation that ever picked up a horn (or in my case, drumsticks) to study the craft. The sad fact that this was his last album was made even more poignant by the title. He really was the "one and only", a true one of a kind, often imitated, NEVER duplicated shining example to us all. The last time we got to see him and his band, a young high school student sat next to me. He was kind enough to indulge me telling him some stories 40+ years old about what an inspiration he was to me and just before the concert began I told him, "this is an evening you will always remember, drink it up." This album is a testament to just how much of an inspiration he was and continues to be.

Thank you, Maynard! You show the world how to fulfill the spirit of your trumpet, so this is your swan song. I listened to all the songs from the past, present, and future. From "Chameleon" to "Gonna Fly Now" to "Hey Jude", you are the master of the trumpet. We love you, and we miss you, M.F.!

This is an amazing album. Maynard is definitely the one and only. Wayne Bergeron, Patrick Hession, and Eric Miyashiro are following in his footsteps, though. Check them out!

This is a wonderful album. It's too bad the tracks that are available for download from iTunes have all sorts of digital distortion and skipping. You can even hear it at the very end of the demo track they've posted for "Darn That Dream". It's been that way since the first day this album appeared on iTunes. Hopefully, iTunes will now make an effort to fix this quickly.

Once again a great album from Maynard! Only problem is, the last song skips and I have heard this also from a friend who downloaded it. Hopefully itunes can address the problem. Don't download the last song until it's fixed.

Maynard Died suddenly and without warning. He knew he was in ill health though, and made a point to gather brilliant musicians around himself one last time to leave this earth with one last tribute to the art form he had spent his entire life exploring. This album is a beautiful experience and the song he wrote with his son in law, fellow musician Christian Jacob, Lost Horizon, is about the love Maynard had for his life, the town he lived in with his beloved fellow adventurer Flo, and their favorite film. He died 2 weeks after working on that song. Move over Gabriel, there's a new man in town.

Truly, Maynard Ferguson is the "The One and Only". This final recording of Maynard and his Big Bop Nouveau Band is an emphatic exclamation point on a legendary career. For this final CD - finished just weeks before his death, the "Boss" gathered together some of his stellar alumnus from earlier bands to fill out his already tight BBN ensemble. These additions combined with great musical compositions, makes this a CD for the ages. If you are a trumpet fan - heck, if you are a fan of good, straight forward Jazz, you will love this album. It has it all - from up tempo, sizzling and wide pieces like "Besame Mucho" to tender and beautiful ballads such as "Darn that Dream" where Maynard issues his final recorded notes. Download this album!
